The Saab Graveyard

I had what I'm calling my first 'photography' experience the other night. For me photography is becoming a means of me interacting with the environment around me, looking at it in new ways and simply being awake. But I've always wanted it to also be a way of engaging new people, talking with them, and hearing their stories.

The other night as I was taking some time hunting for some new sights I came across a junk-yard/car dealership (yes, those things go together) that is for Saabs only. I wasn't there long when I met a guy named Jonathan who worked at the yard; he inquired as to what I was doing there taking pictures (somewhat skeptical at first), but we began to talk and had a lengthy and enjoyable conversation. Jonathan was so passionate about Saab cars. Personally I had never put much thought into them, but I left our conversation inspired by someone who was so incredibly passionate about the brand, the style, the history, and the details: like the way the hood opens, the layout, and the sound the turbo charger makes.

I see Saabs completely differently now, thanks to Jonathan, and it that didn't happen by looking through the view-finder. Conversations have a way of opening our eyes too.
